Activity Days at Sun Rising

A number of Activity Days take place at the burial ground each year, designed to give families and the local community an opportunity to get involved. All are welcome to attend any of our events.

Nature Watch and Open Days

Owing to the hot and very dry summer we have had here in South Warwickshire, we have had to bring forward the mowing of the wildflower meadows and other grassy areas. The date of our Late Summer Nature Watch has therefore also been brought forward, to be held before the haycut. It will be on Sunday 8 August 2010. There will be a session 10 am - 1 pm, and then between 7 pm - 9 pm in the evening.

It is important to let us know if you intend to come along, so if there are any changes in plan (such as provoked by torrential rain on the day) we know who to get in touch with.

Our Nature Watch days continue to record the flora and fauna at the burial ground, including flowers, grasses, insects and birds, and any evidence of mammals such as hares, deer, mice and shrews. Everyone is welcome to attend and get involved. Bring along field guides if you have them, binoculars, or just a keen eye and a willingness to discover. There will be staff on hand to help you identify all you find.

Our next Open Day will be held in May 2011. Our open days are gentle and relaxed affairs at Sun Rising. Our staff are available throughout the day to answer any questions you might have, whether about the ecology and future vision of the site itself, the practicalities of buying plots in advance, or the preparing for or arranging of an ethical or 'green' funeral. We have a catalogue of environmentally-friendly coffins to peruse, with a few on display, working in association with Halford coffin showroom, Coffinopolis.

All are very welcome on any of our activity days. You can take a tour around the site with a member of staff or stroll by yourself. In our little marquee there are fairtrade organic teas and coffee, and homemade cakes, or you are most welcome to bring a picnic. Children are welcome, but dogs (except guide dogs) are not allowed on the burial ground itself.

Tree Planting Weekend

Our last tree planting weekends took place on 28 - 29 November 2009 with some families coming on the following few weekends. It is at this time of year that we put in most of our trees, including those planted on graves, in the memorial area and around the edges of the site. If you have any queries, or would like to plant a tree in memory of a loved one, have a look at our Memorial Tree page and get in touch.

Tree planting this year will take place at the end of November or beginning of December 2010. Let us know if you need more certainty about the date.
