The Burial Ground

For many years, Sun Rising was just another field 'set aside' by the farmer who owned it, growing rye grass to hay. Immediately we saw it, we knew it was the perfect place: the Cotswold escarpment rising behind and the view over the Warwickshire plains stretching out ahead, held by hedgerows of ash, hawthorn, blackthorn and wild rose.

Long Grass and AshIn early 2006, it was a delight to be given the opportunity to take responsibility for this meadow - and create something both useful and beautiful. Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground opened in May 2006.

It will take time. We aren't in the business of make-overs, like Alan Titchmarsh's overnight backgarden transformations! Nor do we wish to make radical changes. The meadow is absolutely beautiful, naturally in harmony with its surrounding landscape - we shall simply be allowing nature to perfect herself.

A nature reserve evolves, with careful management and natural growth, a little each year. And it is with this gentle patience that Sun Rising will develop ... from the open field of rye grass, into a haven of natural beauty, with copses of woodland and areas of wildflower meadow.
